COSMETIC DENTISTRY…..WHY NOW? People have always been interested in cosmetic dentistry, but now manufacturers are spending millions of dollars to make people think more than ever about whiter teeth.

The perfect smile is being heavily marketed through products like Crest White Strips and in-office bleaching products. Never before in the history of dentistry have people been asked to judge their smiles so critically that most of those smiles are found wanting.

The cosmetic market is no longer aimed at the typical young woman who desires perfect teeth. It is now more common that an average male between the ages of forty-five and fifty-five is the one who wants to have a smile that makes him feel good about himself.

This is also not the person who wants to change haircolor or even have a face lift, but one who realizes that in today’s world it is quick and easy to have a great smile. This person realizes as well that this smile can affect his or her life every day, both in business and on a personal level.

Porcelain veneers are quick and easy and the best cosmetic investment a person can make for a new and dramatic change in appearance. These veneers will never alter their color and are a more permanent change than some cosmetic procedures which can “droop” after five years. There is no automatic or expected aging in a well reconstructed mouth.

People today are overloaded with information regarding cosmetic changes. Yet when these same people watch the television shows about whole body makeovers, it is obvious that one of the most dramatic changes is always in the person’s smile. Don’t the tears of gratitude most often come after the person sees his or her new smile? What other cosmetic procedure can take years off your age with virtually no discomfort and very little disruption in your schedule!

Dental schools over the last four to five years have realized the emphasis being made on cosmetic dentistry, and on whole or partial dental reconstruction. More and more continuing education courses are focusing on these very topics. The future is wide open for dentists to specialize in cosmetic procedures which offer people a spectacular change in very little time. Look for dentists to be in the forefront of this new age of cosmetic wonders!
